Lydia Richez-Bowman was Born in Nice, France and currently lives in Southern California.
She spent much of her childhood exploring nature and constructing with cardboard, mud, sticks or anything that was available at the time. Nature is still an important influence in her daily life and in her art.
While in college she studied fine arts which included painting, sculpture, metal work, jewelry design and construction also fiber and textile arts. She also participated in an Interior Design program focused on commercial design.
Richez-Bowman owned an art gallery with a studio where she created and taught classes. She also developed a successful and rewarding arts therapy workshop for cancer survivors, patients and family members.
Richez-Bowman has several collectors across the country and in Europe.
I'm a multidisciplinary abstract, impressionist and feminist artist. I work in acrylics, soft pastels, charcoal, textiles, fibers, papers, printed artist photographs, metal, found objects from nature and more. I often incorporate several different materials into one piece of art. I’m always eager to try new and different ways of expressing my creative concepts as well as using traditional materials in non-traditional ways e.g. soft pastels.
My inspiration often comes from nature; I photograph the abstracts in nature and use these as a reference for other works.
As an intuitive artist I create a concept or a feeling often relating to feminism in mystical, historical or traditional ways. After some general research I follow my creative instincts and develop a series to tell a story which can include masks made from paper pulp, fiber works and references to trees as representation of female figures.
I also create abstract paintings filled with vivid colors and dynamic energy. Some of my abstract paintings are a study of spaces, small enclosures within one another and textures or openings void of color filled with textures surrounded by color. Texture is a significant aspect in all of my work. Some of my paintings have indirect references to trees and the mystical as a part of the story telling. In all of my work the process and materials often determine what direction it will take.
